5 more ways to use iBook author

Continued from a previous post...

As before, most of these ideas assume that your students are capable of and familiar with creating books with iBook author.

6 and 7. This would be a great way for students to create a portfolio of their best work. They could include samples of work, photos and videos of them 'in action', and written summaries of important concepts they learned. It's a great way to have them thinking throughout their learning about the 'big ideas' they are going to want to include in their iBook - i.e. what they want to get photos and videos of as they are doing it. This iBook would be a great tool for student-led conferences with parents, when they get a chance to lead their parents on a tour of the classroom and curriculum.

8. Create an iBook sharing community with schools in your board, province, country, and around the world. iBooks take a fairly significant amount of time and effort to put together, so why not create a networks of schools (or perhaps just interested teachers) who take on a certain topic each term or year so that everyone is working on something different, and the whole group can share in the rewards at the end.

9. Create a class scrapbook for the year. Photos and videos of students can be collected over the year, samples of students best work included, and quotes, writing, or oral stories by students could make up the text. You could even give each student their own chapter to design. It would be an amazing keepsake for the students at the end of the year.

10. If you are in a position (with the knowledge and technology in place) to assign your students to create an iBook on a topic or concept, it instantly allows for a ridiculous amount of differentiation. From struggling learners who can include how-to videos instead of step-by-step written instructions, to gifted students who can go more in depth or connect their learning to other disciplines, there is an avenue for everyone to show what they know within one assignment.
